Gold Dredge 8

Since gold holds such an important place in Alaska's history we thought we better go see what all the fuss was about. We visited Gold Dredge 8 which is now a tourist hot spot.

It started with a train ride past old mining equipment. Then we each (including Maddison) got a small bag of dirt to pan.

Ca-ching!

Between our three bags we found about $48 worth of gold.

Then we walked through the old dredge which is a boat that scoops and sifts the dirt looking for gold. This dredge hasn't been in operation since 1959.

From inside the creepy dredge.

We had a good time but I don't think Steve is ready to quit his day job to pan for gold full time.
