1st BBQ

We have had a pretty rainy Memorial weekend but found a few hours of sunshine to take Maddison on her very first BBQ.
And, as you can see, she takes her BBQing very seriously.

We have been adjusting to new parent life, trying to not go crazy with the lack of sleep and constant diaper changing. Maddison often likes to be awake when she should be sleeping and sleeps when it would be fine for her to be awake. Steve does all he can to help when she gets fussy in the middle of the night but in the end has to hand her over to Mom for what she really wants....to eat.

Some days I forget to even brush my teeth since my days don't seem to have a start or end...it's just one long cycle of napping, feeding and changing diapers. It is especially hard to keep track of time with all this daylight. The 4 am feeding could just as well be a 4 pm feeding with how light it is outside.

Despite this new difficult schedule, we are loving out little Maddison. She is so precious and lovable. She makes the cutest faces and can roll her tongue like a taco just like her Dad. She gets the hiccups at least twice a day, which she hates, and can do a Houdini act to free her arms from any swaddle or even clothing. And just for fun, here is a post-bath fish head photo.

Garden Time!

We got our garden planted just in the nick of time - hours before we went to the hospital in labor. In fact, I didn't even have a chance to shower before going to the hospital so I still had dirt under my fingernails when we arrived. A few days ago Steve planted a few more items, potatoes, peppers, corn, and for me...a tomato plant, while Maddison and I watched.
My cute potatoe farmer.

Supervising

Improvising a watering method since we don't have a hose or outside water spigot.

Grumpy Face

Even Maddison's grumpy face is so cute.

Glow Worm: part 2

Looks like Maddison is doing much better, gaining weight and now off the light. Yeah!

Glow Worm

Call her a glow worm, radio active baby, or rave dance party accessory - our little girl has a certain "glow" about her. Maddison's visit to the pediatrician revealed she had Jaundice. The Jaundice was making her very sleepy - too sleepy to eat and she was loosing too much weight. So, she gets a couple of days of constant light therapy where she has to wear a lighted pad. It is a little inconvenient to have your baby plugged in all the time but we hope it will get her healthy again. After a day on the light, she does seem awake more often and is eating much better. We will get her checked at the pediatricians tomorrow to see how she is progressing. She is still cute as a button and we love her so much!

May 16th, 2012

We are so excited to anounce the arrival of Maddison Rae Pfost to our now family of three. She came nine days early and weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz. and was 21.5 inches long.  She is such a cutie and we are so happy to have her home and can't get enough cuddle time.

Success!

We had a successful “inversion” yesterday to get our little squirt to flip out of a breach position (it only works 50% of the time).  It was a little more involved than I expected. I had to get 2 shots, 1 blood draw and an IV. Then a Dr. and my midwife went to work, forcefully pushing and sliding their hands on my uterus to try and coerce our little girl’s head down. It only lasted 3 or 4 minutes but it was pretty intense. I was very glad to hear them say, ‘Looks like her head is down,’ as I tried to catch my breath. I didn’t expect it to be so painful so I guess it was a pretty good taste of what labor will be like. I can’t imagine labor being much more painful but I guess we will see.

It is standard to keep you in the hospital for 2 hours after the procedure to make sure the baby recovers and there are no problems. After 2 hours they told me I was having contractions every few minutes and wanted to keep me an additional 2 hours for observation. I couldn’t feel the contractions but the monitor they had on me was picking them up pretty regularly.  After the additional hours the contractions were still occurring but since I wasn’t feeling them they sent us home.

Today my belly is pretty sore, even to the slightest touch. I can definitely tell her feet are up instead of her head; those little heals have a little more power than her head as they kick around. She is sitting a little more comfortably for me as well. Before I always felt a little lop-sided but now she feels a little more centered and less bulgy with head and limbs every which way. So now we just wait and hope she doesn’t flip back over. We have just under 3 weeks until the due date and hopefully the next time we go to the hospital, we will be bringing her home with us.

Living Green

I am so excited! Steve built me an awesome greenhouse last weekend. He bought all the supplies and built the whole thing all in one day. So impressive. It is still a little early to plant (we got snow yesterday) but I will start some seeds indoors soon and transfer them to the garden in the next few weeks or so. Hopefully, we can work around the baby and keep everything alive.

Steve designed the greenhouse with sides that open, a bench seat, and side windows that come down for ventilation. Our plants will be so happy inside.
