To celebrate the first day of Spring we went to the World Ice Art Championship in Fairbanks. Seemed like a very "spring-y" activity to do, right? We were impressed but didn't stay too long since it was -5 degrees. We are however, getting lots of wonderful daylight. As of last Sunday we are getting more daylight than our friends in Utah. Ha! Take that!

Close Call
2 days of fasting, 2 visits to the lab, 4 hours of lab work,
2 bottles of glucose “cocktail” (bleck), 1 squirmy baby livin’ high off a
glucose overdose, and 5 separate blood
draws later it is finally conclusive, no gestational diabetes. Sigh of relief.

Magic
We got to see the most amazing Northern Lights show on Saturday night. The lights were out in full force, moving and shimmering in green, pink and purple. It was so magical and surreal. I kept thinking, "is this for real?" Here are a few photos but as you can guess, they hardly do them justice.

The Perfect Morning
This morning I woke up to this beautiful sunrise and 25 degree weather. It is amazing how warm 25 degrees feels when you have been in the negatives for so long. I didn't even need a hat or gloves when I replaced my UT licence plates with Alaska ones this morning. Then we had a little visitor. I looked out my window and saw a small moose walking around our house.
It was so nice outside I had no problems wading knee high in snow to snap a few photos. It was so exciting! She scoped me out a few times but was way more interested in munching on leaves and sticks than the little figure half buried in the snow.

The warmer weather is making all the snow on our A-frame roof slide off in large quantities so every once in a while it sounds like there is an avalanche going on outside. I'm just hoping one doesn't fall outside our front door so I get stuck inside. I am picking Steve up from work today so he can't come home to dig me out if needed. Monday, February 6, 2012
Yukon Quest

Steve and I ventured out into the cold to check out the start of the Yukon Quest - a 1000 mile sled dog race. Even though it was only -20 it was still COLD! But it was fun to watch and we were glad we went and glad to be in a warm house later that night while a bunch of people and their dogs were camping out for the night.Tuesday, January 31, 2012
More sun please!
There was actual sunshine coming through our window today. Enough to give the plant that Steve brought home for me as a surprise yesterday, some sunny rays. (What an awesome husband)Today we get 6 hrs., 48 min., and 3 sec. of daylight. YES! Keep it coming!

Northern Lights
We heard there had been a recent solar flare and the northern lights were going to be out so we went on a search to find them. It was kind of exciting: checking weather reports, watching for clear skys and texting friends to see where the best show was. We felt like real aurora trackers. We found a good spot for viewing and this is what we saw...
We could not see the red light in the sky but the camera was able to pick it up. That was cool.

Alaska Updates
Last week the Jeep broke down...again. This was about the third time since we have been in Alaska...it just doesn't like the cold I guess. So, we decided it was time to get a new car. It is a Subaru Outback. I think baby Pfost will like it.
Baby Update: Steve was able to feel the baby kick for the first time yesterday. That was awesome!
