Pfost Pfourth of July!

Maddison looked so cute in her 4th of July outfit but it only stayed clean long enough to take this one photo.

Grandma and Grandpa Pfost enjoyed some good cuddle time with Maddison.

We decided to visit the Arctic Circle while Steve's parents were here. It was a long, long drive but we made it and Maddison traveled very well up until about the last hour when she got a little fussy. We drove a total of 406 miles and it took us about 12.5 hours round trip. We drove on the famous "Ice Road Truckers" highway, crossed over the Yukon River, and followed the Alaska pipe line all the way to the edge of the Arctic Circle (where you get one official day where the sun never sets and one day where it never rises. Keep traveling North to the coast and you get 67 days of total darkness in the winter.)

The are only three things at the edge of the Arctic Circle: beautiful views, lots and lots of mosquitoes, and this sign.

We also took a river boat cruise through Fairbanks which was way more fun than I expected. We watched a float plane take off and land on the water, got a dog sled demonstration, and stopped off at a native village replica (which reminded us of a small Polynesian Cultural Center).

We had a great time and like always, wish the visit could have been longer. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Pfost for a great week!

Blessing Day

Maddison's beautiful blessing dress made by Grandma Pfost.

Steve gave a beautiful blessing and Maddison was good for about half of it before she started to cry and get fussy. It sure was nice to have Steve's parents here and we are excited to spend the next week with them.

Funny Baby

Maddison 9:14 pm sound asleep.

Maddison 9:16 pm discovered "under cover."

Lunch Date

In the summer small "taco truck" style food vendors pop up all over Fairbanks serving up everything from Thai food and buffalo wings to ice cream and BBQ. On Saturday we decided to check a few of them out.

Our first stop was the Pita Place for Hummus Falafel Pitas. We were pleasantly surprised with this $5 lunch. It was so tasty! We will definitely be going back.

Our next stop was the "Bun on the Run" for a bakery style after lunch treat. Unfortunately it was closed...

...so we opted to visit our favorite Italian restaurant for Italian sodas and cheesecake. It was such a beautiful day in the low 80s - it was hard to believe this is the same place that gets to -40 degrees in the winter.

Banner

I am absolutely loving the banner Grandma Jalene made for Maddison while she was visiting. It is so cute and the perfect addition to her room. Thanks Jalene!

Family Time: Part 2

We had so much fun last week, I had to break up the blog post into two parts.

Kathleen captured this great face on Maddison.
We couldn't spend all our time shopping so we had to make sure we visited the museum on the University Campus for a little Alaskan education. Maddison slept the whole time so I don't think she learned much but we enjoyed the displays.

Grandma and Maddison bonded right away and Grandma saved the day by diagnosing Maddison's colic and helping to get her through some rough moments and hours. I was sure grateful and I'm sure Maddie was too.

Grandpa found some wood he wanted to take back to his wood shack so Steve helped him cut it down to size for "easy" shipping back to Utah. We can't wait to see what he creates.

I am totally loving the Birch planter I scored for $5 at the Great Alaskan Bowl Co. during one of our outings.

Family Time

We have had a wonderful week with Grandpa and Grandma Pope, and Aunt Kathleen this past week. We are sad they had to go back home but we had a great time and made some good memories. I even got some extra sleep with all the additional arms which were more than happy to hold Maddison in the late evening and early morning hours.
Snuggling with Great Aunt Kathleen who, while visiting, crocheted two beautiful sweaters for Maddison. What talent!
We had a campfire dinner at our house and finished just barely in time before a big rain storm to came through.

The great thing about living in North Pole is that you can visit Santa any time you want...and as often as you want. I think we took three trips to The Santa House to buy souvenirs, gifts and of course fudge.

A Visit to the Bowl Factory.

Doesn't get much cuter than a baby in a bowl.
